The first day of work experience is typically a nerve-wracking one but at Just Employment, I was greeted by a welcoming and helpful team who put me at ease immediately. There is a presumption that work experience will consist of making cups of tea and plenty of photocopying but this wasn’t the case with Just Employment.
Upon arrival, I was sat down at a desk and was soon handed my first task, to draft an Agency Agreement. This was not something I was familiar with, so the prospect of drafting this agreement was overwhelming at first but after some research, I was able to proceed with the task. The best part of all was being able to present the agreement to the client personally. I was thrilled that I was given the opportunity to contribute to this particular case and the client’s satisfaction with my work reinforced my aspiration to become a solicitor.
Throughout the week, I was given various tasks from researching the law on disability discrimination to drafting and amending contracts of employment. I was fortunate enough to be included in a number of client meetings which explored issues such as constructive dismissals and disability discrimination. Sitting in on meetings meant that I could observe the interaction between solicitor and client, giving me the chance to see how employment law works in practice.
Work experience with Just Employment was enjoyable, challenging and fulfilling. In fact, I can confidently say that this has been the best work experience I have had so far!
