What is Harassment?
In the context of employment law, harassment is usually referred to in the context of discrimination. Individuals are protected from harassment on the grounds of any of the seven protected characteristics (age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation).
The legal definition of harassment is found in the Equality Act 2010 and it must be conduct which is related to a protected characteristic and which has the purpose or effect of violating the victims dignity or creating an environment that is intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive to the victim.
